New! Points Boost Across Select Chase Credit Cards

There have been big changes as of June 23, 2025 to the Chase ecosystem!

With that came some changes to how your points are valued when redeemed through Chase Travel℠. The familiar and simple 1.25x and 1.5x redemption rates are being phased out, replaced by a new system called “Points Boost.” A transition period is in place, but this is a major shift in how cardholders will get value from their points when redeeming through Chase Travel.

This change does not effect the value of your points if you transfer your points to partners, which is what I recommend most of the time to get the most value out of your points!

Let’s dig into what changed —and what it means for you.

1.25-1.5 Cent Travel Redemptions Replaced With “Points Boost”

Chase is replacing 1.5x on Chase Travel redemptions for Sapphire Reserve cardholders and 1.25x on Chase Travel for Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card holders with “Point Boost”. One easy way to look at these old 1.5x and 1.25x redemptions is that you could book $1,500 worth of travel in the Chase Travel portal for 100,000 points (1.5x) if you held a Sapphire Reserve and you could book $1,250 worth of travel in the Chase Travel portal for 100,0000 points (1.25x) if you held the Sapphire Preferred. I loved the simplicity of this, but Points Boost is taking it’s place.

What is Points Boost?

Starting June 23, 2025, Chase rolled out a new feature called Points Boost, which automatically applies to both new and current cardholders. This update is replacing the familiar 25% to 50% extra value you’d typically get when redeeming Ultimate Rewards through Chase Travel. To be clear, I still prefer to transfer my Chase points to travel partners to get even more value out of my points and the new Points Boost does not effect the value I get from transferring my points at all.

Instead of those old fixed redemptions, Points Boost offers anywhere from 1.25 to 2.0 cents per point on eligible travel bookings on select flights and hotel stays made through Chase Travel.

For cardholders who applied for the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred prior to June 23, 2025, though, there’s a bit of flexibility: you’ll have the option to stick with the old redemption rates for a while, giving you time to decide which method gives you the best bang for your points.

Points Boost For Chase Sapphire Preferred Cardholders

Cardmembers can redeem points in Chase Travel for up to 1.5x on thousands of hotels and flights and up to 1.75x on premium cabin tickets on select airlines, replacing 1.25x on all Chase Travel. Points can be redeemed at a 1:1 rate for all Chase Travel purchases that are not eligible for Points Boost offers.

Points Boost for Chase Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business Cardholders

Cardmembers can redeem points in Chase Travel at a higher rate when booking select premium air cabin tickets and hotels that will be redeemable at a rate of 2x for Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers replacing 1.5x on all Chase Travel. Points can be redeemed at a 1:1 rate for all other Chase Travel purchases that are not eligible for points boost offers.

When do the Points Boost changes take effect?

For cardmembers who applied prior to June 23, 2025, points earned prior to October 26, 2025 are eligible to be redeemed at a 1.5x through Chase Travel with a Sapphire Reserve or 1.25x with a Sapphire Preferred until October 26, 2027. For points earned prior to October 26, 2025, eligible cardmembers will automatically receive the best offer available, whether it’s Points Boost or 1.5x/1.25x on Chase Travel. After October 26, 2027, points can be redeemed at a 1:1 rate for all Chase Travel purchases that are not eligible for Points Boost offers.

My Take:

I don’t love this change, but since I usually transfer my points to partners like Hyatt, Southwest, Flying Blue, etc, it does not effect the way I value my Chase points much. Points Boost just went live on July 23, 2025, so we will see what flights and hotels qualify for Points Boost, but now more than ever I will encourage you to transfer your points to get the most value out of your points!
