How to Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points

When it comes to award travel, Chase Ultimate Rewards points are one of the most valuable point “currencies”.  By transferring these points to Chase’s transfer partners, you can get much more value out of each point!

For example, if you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you could:

  1. Cash out 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards for $1,000

  2. Redeem them in Chase Travel℠ for $1250 worth of travel

  3. OR transfer them to partners. For example, you could transfer your points to a partner like Hyatt and your points would turn into Hyatt points. Then you could redeem your points for a hotel stays worth anywhere from $1,500-$5,000+! (See World of Hyatt: The Ultimate Hotel Sweet Spot in Travel Rewards for more details!) Essentially, you can transfer or exchange your Chase Ultimate Rewards points into a transfer partner’s points to make this happen.  While Hyatt is one of my favorite transfer partner “sweet spots”, you can do this with several other partners too, including Southwest, United, and Marriott.

Transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards

So how do you change your points? Sign into your Chase account and navigate to the Chase Ultimate Rewards screen.

Once here, you will select your Chase credit card that allows you to transfer to partners. This would be a Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve®, or the Chase Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card.

Note: If you have a Chase Freedom Unlimited®, Chase Freedom Flex®, Chase Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, and/or Chase Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card, you can combine all these points with one of those 3 cards listed above, and you can then transfer ALL of of these points to partners!

Once you click on your Chase Ultimate Rewards, you will see several options of how to utilize them. To turn your Chase points into Hotel or Airline miles, you will click the three dots, then click the blue arrow next to Travel, and then click Transfer points to partners.

Once here, you will see a list of all the Chase transfer partners. At the top of this page, Chase will highlight any partners that currently have a transfer bonus. The screenshot below shows a 30% transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic and a 25% transfer bonus to Flying Blue. (So for every 1,000 Chase points you transfer to Virgin Atlantic, you would receive 1,300 Virgin Atlantic Flying Blue miles.) Transfer bonuses come and go, so be sure to check for current transfer bonuses!)

On this page, find the transfer partner you would like to use and click on it.

Then you will be asked to enter your name and account information for that transfer partner. If you do not already have an account set up with that partner, there will be a link displayed where you can do that.

Next, you will type in the amount of points you want to transfer. This must be done in increments of 1,000 points.

Once you click the “Next” button, you will confirm the transfer amounts and click submit to complete the transfer. It is important to note that once you transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to a travel partner, the transfer is final and you cannot transfer them back to Chase. I recommend confirming the hotel or flight is available with points right before you complete your transfer.

Note: Most transfers are instant or within an hour, but transfers to Singapore Airlines, IHG and Marriott typically take 1-2 days to be complete.
