Hyatt Regency Maui on Points: My Review (and the Card Strategy to Book It Yourself)
We've now stayed at the Hyatt Regency Maui twice now, and if someone asks me where to stay in Maui using points, this is almost always my answer!
We've also stayed at the Andaz Maui and the Hana-Maui Resort, and I love both for different reasons. But the Hyatt Regency is the one my kids ask to go back to! It's fun, relaxed, right on Kaʻanapali Beach, and one of the best point values in Hawaii — the point price per night is one of the lowest for a resort this nice.
If you're wondering whether it's worth using your points here — and how you'd actually pull that off — here's everything I'd tell a friend before they book.
How We Booked it With Hyatt Points

From there, search your travel dates to see the point price for each night.
From a quick search, the most common point price on the calendar is 30k points per night, even popular travel months. Seeing that this resort often goes for $600-$900 per night, this is a great redemption! It’s one of the best sweet spots in the points world for families — and it's a big part of why this property is always my first recommendation for Maui.

You can move them to other Chase cards and transfer them to Hyatt too! For example, if you move $1,000 cash back/100k Points from an Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card to a Chase Sapphire Reserve®, that $1,000 becomes 100,000 Chase points you can transfer straight to Hyatt and book a stay at the Hyatt Regency Maui that is worth a lot more than $1,000 cash back!
Why We Keep Coming Back to the Hyatt Regency Maui
We've stayed at a lot of amazing Hyatt resorts over the years, but this one keeps making our list because it's simply fun and a really good points deal! It's one of the resorts where everyone in our family is happy at the same time — kids included! The kids love the pools, beaches, activities and the animals on property. We love the location, the beach walks, and the Club Lounge. It just works for a family vacation!
If I'm choosing between Hyatt resorts on Maui: For a honeymoon or an adults-only trip, I'd pick the Andaz Maui — if you have the points, since it runs significantly more per night than the Hyatt Regency Maui. For adventure and a unique experience, I highly recommend Hana-Maui Resort for a couple of nights! For a family vacation, the Hyatt Regency Maui is my pick!
The Pools
Your kids will LOVE the pools at this resort. Between the waterslides, hot tubs, bridges, splash pad, and multiple pool areas — plus access to the pool next door at the Hyatt Maui Residence Club — they could spend an entire day there without getting bored. Towels and beach chairs are free to use every day. As a parent, I also love that there are plenty of shaded spots to relax while keeping an eye on the kids. It's close enough to the ocean that I can watch my older kids snorkeling and my younger ones at the pool — at the same time.
The Penguins (and Resort Activities!)
I know it sounds funny, but the penguins are one of the actual reasons my kids remember this resort and keep asking to go back. Between the penguins, flamingos, koi pond, and tropical birds, the grounds feel unlike anywhere else we've stayed. The lobby is big and spacious and a fun place to hang out!
The resort also runs free daily activities — we've done the lei-making class, bracelet making, penguin presentation and I tried the yoga class - all complimentary with the resort fee (that’s totally waved if you book with points!) Check our their resort guide and schedule → HERE.
Club Lounge Access
Food is one of the biggest expenses whenever we travel, and having Club Lounge access saved us SO MUCH MONEY. Breakfast every morning, snacks & soda/juice during the day. Appetizers and dessert every evening, and the appetizers were substantial enough that we ate there for dinner multiple times!
Our last trip here was with my extended family and we all had Club Lounge access. It felt about as all inclusive as you can get for Hawaii ;) It saved us money and we had a place to gather for a lot of meals. It made the whole trip feel more relaxing, because we weren't constantly deciding where to eat next!
Each night, they offered vegetables, meats, bread, cheeses and then something a little more substantial like pulled pork sandwiches, egg rolls, coconut shrimp, or sweet chili chicken! I’ve even heard you can ask the employees ahead of time what the menu is so you can plan eating out accordingly!

The Location
The Hyatt Regency sits right on Kaʻanapali Beach, which is one of my favorite home bases on Maui. We loved walking to Whalers Village for dinner, snorkeling with turtles right off the resort, and doing morning and evening walks along the beach path. Black Rock Beach — some of the best snorkeling we found on the island — is less than a mile away.
If you've never stayed in Kaʻanapali before, I think it's one of the best home bases on the island for families.
Things to Keep in Mind Before Booking
Book early if you're using points, especially around school breaks — award space at this resort goes fast, and you can book up to 13 months out.
If you can get Club Lounge access, it's absolutely worth prioritizing.
There isn’t a huge beach at this property - in fact, it’s pretty tiny. But you can rent complimentary beach chairs on property and we always found turtles directly from the resort when we went snorkeling.
Self parking is $50 and valet parking is $55. Parking is waived if you book an award stay as a Globalist status or a Guest of Honor booking.
Rollaway beds are available in the standard King rooms with a queen sleeper sofa for $25/night. We prefer booking this room type for our family and adding the rollaway bed. Kids have more space, and parents have a bigger bed!
Would I Stay Here Again?
Without hesitation! It has enough activities to keep kids entertained, enough space for adults to relax, and a location that's hard to beat. Most importantly, it's one of those resorts our kids still talk about long after we get home.
If you're looking for a family-friendly resort in Maui you can book almost entirely with points, I don't think you can go wrong here!
