Chase Freedom Unlimited® Review
I constantly get requests for a card that checks these boxes:
✔️ No annual fee
✔️ Not a business credit card
✔️ Low minimum spend
If that sounds like you, the Chase Freedom Unlimited® is absolutely worth a look right now!
Here’s a full breakdown of the current offer, benefits, and whether the Freedom Unlimited is right for you!
Cash Back Or Points?
Although Chase markets the Freedom Unlimited as a “cash-back” card, it actually earns Chase points. So 1.5% cash back is really 1.5x Chase points per dollar.
At minimum, these points can be worth 1 cent per point when redeemed through Chase Travel℠.
But here’s the key: these points become much more valuable when you combine them with a transferable Chase card like Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, or the Sapphire Reserve for Business℠. That’s what allows you to transfer points to partners like Hyatt, Southwest, United, etc.
Because of this, I think the Freedom Unlimited is best paired with one of those transferrable cards as well so that you are able to transfer the points earned on the card to valuable travel partners.

Why I Like the Freedom Unlimited
You’ll Earn:
3% (3x) on dining + drugstores
1.5% (1.5x) everywhere else
This is my default card for dining and “everything else” purchases that don’t earn a higher multiplier elsewhere.
The Perfect Combo
For low annual fees and high value, I recommend pairing the Freedom Unlimited with the Chase Sapphire Preferred to:
Earn more points across all categories, and
unlock transfer partners for better travel redemptions
Ultimately, if you apply for the Freedom Unlimited, I highly recommend eventually adding a Sapphire card down the road!
Bottom Line
If you already have a Sapphire card or prefer a smaller minimum spend with no annual fee, the Chase Freedeom Unlimited is an EXCELLENT choice!
