Here’s the thing. Even with Hyatt’s award chart changes in May, Hyatt still has one big thing going for it: It keeps an award chart.

That means you can look up a property and know exactly how many points you’ll need for a specific date. Hilton, Marriott, and IHG? They all use dynamic pricing.

So yes — finding the best “sweet spot” redemptions can take a little more digging.

Is it slightly more strategic? YES!

Is it still worth your time? Also yes!

If you just want the quick take:

• Hilton offers → Amazing for boujee stays + luxury redemptions
• Marriott offer → Great for flexible travelers who value more free nights over luxury
• IHG → Great for families + specific luxury sweet spots

Now let’s dig in.

Hilton

I personally only recommend opening a Hilton card when the welcome offer is elevated and includes a Free Night Reward! (and they are here!!! 🎉)

These elevated offers are especially good if you love boujee hotel stays.

🚨 There are FOUR elevated Hilton offers right now. Below I’ll break down the perks and who each one makes the most sense for.

Hilton Free Night Rewards are the most valuable hotel free night certificates because they can be used at any Hilton property worldwide — including luxury Hilton hotels — for a standard award room. There are no blackout dates, but you will need to find standard award availability to redeem. Free Night Rewards expire one year after issuance, and while a few exclusions apply, they can be used at most Hilton hotels!

💳👇🏼 ONE:

The Hilton Honors American Express Card has no annual fee (Rates & Fees) and still includes valuable Hilton Honors perks like a 5th Night Free on reward stays of five or more consecutive nights booked with points (Free Night Rewards do not count).

Strategy: If you and a player 2 open this card, you would each earn a Free Night Reward and have at least 140,000 Hilton points between the two of you. The Free Night Rewards + the 140,000 could easily get you 3 nights at a nice property without paying an annual fee 🤯

💳👇🏼 TWO:

The Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card includes:

5th Night Free on reward stays of five or more consecutive nights booked with points (Free Night Rewards do not count)
automatic Hilton Gold Status — which includes free breakfast internationally and a daily U.S. food and beverage credit (typically $10–$25 per person for you and one additional registered guest)
up to $200 per year in Hilton statement credits issued as $50 per quarter for eligible purchases made directly with Hilton properties
and the opportunity to earn an additional Free Night Reward each year when you spend $15,000 on the card in a calendar year.

Strategy: If you and a player 2 open this card, you would each earn a Free Night Reward and have at least 260,000 Hilton points between the two of you! The Free Night Rewards + the 260,000 Hilton points could easily get you 3-4 free nights at a nice property. PLUS if you are a high spender, you can earn an additional Free Night Reward when you spend $15,000 on the card in a calendar year!

💳👇🏼 THREE:

The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card does not count toward your Chase 5/24 status and includes several valuable Hilton Honors perks. You’ll enjoy:

a 5th Night Free on reward stays of five or more consecutive nights booked with points (Free Night Rewards do not count)
automatic Hilton Gold Status — which includes free breakfast internationally and a daily U.S. food and beverage credit (typically $10–$25 per person for you and one additional registered guest)

IHG

Increased offers on two IHG credit cards!

IHG is one that people often overlook — but there are currently increased offers on two IHG cards.

IHG uses dynamic pricing, so you’ll need to search your specific dates. But the fourth-night-free benefit when you book four consecutive nights using points for cardholders can be incredibly valuable!

IHG points can be redeemed at a wide range of properties, from higher-end brands like InterContinental and boutique stays like Kimpton, to lower point priced options like Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn.

This card includes a free anniversary night every year (valid for hotels costing up to 40,000 points, with the option to add points if a stay costs more), making it a great fit if you stay in hotels at least once per year.

Great no-annual-fee option!

You typically won’t be eligible for a new personal IHG welcome bonus if:

• You currently hold a personal IHG card
• OR you’ve earned a bonus on a personal IHG card in the past 24 months

Sweet Spots:

Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa — Grand Cayman

This property often goes for $700-$1,000 per night!

With a card like the IHG One Rewards Premier, you can use the 4th night free on award stays, bringing the 4-night total down to ~210,000 points.

Standard award rates at this property typically start around 70,000 IHG One Rewards points per night (but IHG doesn’t have a fixed award chart — pricing moves with demand so you’ll need to search for the lower priced dates!)

Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa— Roatán, Honduras

About 60,000–70,000 IHG points per night is a good redemption!

Keep in mind: dynamic pricing means these point prices can shift up or down with seasonality and availability — sometimes significantly. You’ll always see the specific points required for your travel dates when you search on IHG’s website.

Holiday Inn & Holiday Inn Express

Holiday Inn & Holiday Inn Express can be especially great for families!

Many Holiday Inn Express properties include free breakfast, and some locations can sleep up to 6 in one room.

Sometimes you can stretch one welcome offer into 4+ nights at a Holiday Inn — which makes IHG very practical for road trips and family travel.

Marriott

There’s also a limited time Marriott offer!

Some things to know about Marriott free night certificates:

Marriott’s free night certificates are flexible because they can be “topped off” with up to 15,000 additional points.

For example, you can use a 50k certificate + 15k points to book a 65k night.

If you’re short on points, both American Express and Chase transfer to Marriott.

Keep in mind:

The 50k certificates expire one year after issuance.
50k Marriott points might not stretch QUITE as far and you think. However there are still several great ways to use these certificates!

Final Thoughts

Hyatt’s recent changes are a reminder that hotel programs evolve.

That’s why we should diversify our nearly free hotel strategy.

And since there are elevated offers across Hilton, Marriott, and IHG — and depending on your travel style, one of them could make a lot of sense!
