Cabo Resort Reviews
In February of 2024, we took a trip to Cabo and decided to resort hop! We booked two nights at a Hyatt property with Hyatt points and a Hilton property with Hilton Free Night Certificates. Keep reading to find out my thoughts about each of the resorts!
To get to Cabo, we flew American Airlines from Phoenix for just 20,000 American Airlines miles per person round-trip, plus taxes and fees.
The Cape, a Thompson Hotel
Location and Booking
We arrived at The Cape, a Thompson Hotel, around 11AM. Just minutes after arriving, we got our first view from the hotel of the famous El Arco. Early check-in was available but unfortunately there are no free upgrades available. We booked this room about three months in advance and were happy just to find award availability! The standard room was still great and had amazing view ocean views. The cash price for these two nights would have been $2,155.14 but instead we used just 65K Hyatt points for the stay. One night was standard pricing at 30K points and the other was peak pricing at 35K points. We used points from the welcome offer we earned by opening the Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card and earning the welcome offer!
Other credit cards that earn Hyatt points:
*Note that you or your Player 2 must have an annual fee Chase card (the Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Business Preferred) to be able to transfer your Chase Ultimate Reward points earned from any Chase card to Hyatt.
Amenities
While there were no rollerblading paths to use at The Cape (😉), we woke up the next morning and spent time at the gym. It was overlooking the ocean and had beautiful views! Unfortunately the beach at The Cape is rocky and the ocean was not swimmable, although we did see surfers out in the water! There is an infinity pool at The Cape which was small and often a bit crowded. We aren’t huge pool people, but we got in the pool once for about 10 minutes and enjoyed the swim up bar.
Rooms
One of my favorite things about this property is that each room at The Cape has an ocean view! Our standard room had a dreamy balcony swing and the views from this resort were incredible.
Dining
For breakfast at The Cape, we ate from the buffet at The Ledge restaurant on property. This breakfast was complimentary for us because we have Globalist status.
We loved heading to the beach at The Cape for lunch and ended up having the poolside ceviche and shrimp tacos both days! While our flights and hotels were covered with points, we were mentally prepared for the insanely expensive resort food prices, like our $23 ceviche and $27 shrimp tacos!
We ate dinner the first night at The Rooftop at The Cape and the second night we had dinner reservations for Manta, a restaurant on property. Manta was a splurge but it ended up being our favorite meal of the trip! We splurged for the recommended five-course meal and it was so good and unique. I highly recommend this if you like seafood, you’re an adventurous eater, and you are ok splurging on a fancy meal! After dinner, we got to enjoy fireworks over the water to end the evening.
Waldorf Astoria, Los Cabos Pedregal
Location and Booking
After our two night stay at The Cape, we took a taxi to our next property, the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal. We drove through a tunnel to enter the property and were greeted with complimentary hibiscus water. We arrived around noon and our room wasn’t ready yet, so we headed to the pool area for lunch.
We booked this with 2 Hilton Free Night Certificates that we earned from two elevated offers on Hilton cards last summer. Standard rooms here go for 140K Hilton points per night, or you can use a Free Night Certificate. American Express also transfers to Hilton at a 1:2 ratio, meaning 70K Amex points will turn into 140K Hilton points. Award availability for standard nights can be hard to find and it’s not as predictable as other hotels so you have to watch for it and/or set an alerts. I found nights by setting an alert with MaxMyPoint and booked about 3 months before our stay. I could not find weekend dates so we ended up staying Sunday-Tuesday. The cash price of our stay for two nights would have been $4,266.30, which is just insane to me! We paid $0 instead.

Amenities
This is a beautiful resort! There were 3 pools on property and one of them was an adult only pool with a swim up bar. We saw a couple of families but it was overall a very quiet resort. The property also had a fitness center and spa and wellness center.
Rooms
Something that sets this resort apart is that every room at this resort includes a plunge pool! After lunch, we got checked into our beautiful room. Even though we don’t drink, we were greeted with a complimentary bottle of Clase Azul Resposado Tequila in our room, as well as a complimentary stocked mini fridge with juices, waters and sodas.
Dining
The resort food prices were similar to the Cape (steep!) with lunch tacos starting around $30! We enjoyed our expensive tacos with a whale sightings from the beach! The hotel delivered complimentary chips, salsa, guacamole and hibiscus water between 4-6pm every evening. We ordered room service for dinner and ate a sandwich and a burger that wasn’t great, especially for being so expensive!
We had breakfast at Don Manuels both mornings on property. If you have Hilton Gold or Diamond Status, which you can get by holding any Hilton credit card with an annual fee, you get free continental breakfast or you can upgrade to the full breakfast buffet at a discounted rate of $20 per person.
Our second night, we ate dinner at the far end of the resort at El Farralon along the cliffs! The views were incredible and we would say ambiance was an 11/10! Everything else was underwhelming to us though for such a splurge dinner. The price point was comparable to the 5 course meal we had at Manta at The Cape, but we thought the food and the service were both way better at Manta. We got to see more fireworks to end the evening at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, as well!
Overall Thoughts & Opinions
The Cape :
easier to accumulate points for and find availability for
better resort food
better views
personally preferred balcony swings over the plunge pool at the Waldorf Astoria
smaller beach to walk
smaller property
saw whales every day
felt more crowded
Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal:
harder to accumulate points for and find availability for
better pina coladas
nicer room
amazing top notch service
coziest beach chairs (they felt like mattresses out there!)
longer beach for walking
larger property
saw whales every day
quiet and didn’t feel crowded
You honestly can’t go wrong with either property! We liked that we got to experience both, especially because we chose to relax and spend time at the resorts instead of go out and do excursions! We loved our trip to Cabo and would totally go back again and repeat the same relaxing trip!
