How to Book a Vacation Rental with Vacasa
Last February, my husband and I used a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card welcome offer to redeem 5 free nights in a beautiful Vacasa vacation rental in Princeville, Kauai! The best part - the 75,000 Venture Miles welcome offer was advertised as only being equal to $750 in travel rewards but we got almost $2,500 in travel value with this tip! (Our vacation rental would have cost us $2,500 had we booked it with cash!)
**Note: Vacasa recently devalued their Wyndham redemptions in Oct. 2023 so now, the 75,000 Venture miles would get you $1,250 in vacation rentals instead of $2,500. Still a better value than $750 worth of travel.
Keep reading to learn how you can use points and miles to book a Vacasa vacation rental like we did!
While Airbnb and VRBO tend to be more popular for vacation rental bookings and have a wider footprint, your points will go a lot further when you book a vacation rental with Vacasa instead! Vacasa is similar to Airbnb and VRBO, though only available to book in North America (including Hawaii), Belize, and Costa Rica. You can use Citi ThankYou points and Capital One Venture Miles to book Vacasa vacation rental!
Here’s how to book one:
Book Vacasa vacation rentals with Wyndham points! Three of my favorite credit cards that earn points that transfer to Wyndham are:
Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card
Capital One Venture X Business
How many points per night does it cost to book a Vacasa?
On Vacasa’s website it says:
“Participating Vacasa home rentals require a redemption of either 15,000 or 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points per bedroom per night. Generally, the tier of points required for a property is determined based on the average cost per bedroom per night, inclusive of all taxes and fees (“Average Cost”). If the Average Cost is $250.00 or less, the redemption requires 15,000 points per bedroom per night; if the Average Cost is between $250.01 and $500.00, the redemption requires 30,000 points per bedroom per night. Rentals with an average cost of $500.01 or higher are not eligible for redemption.”
Many 1 bedroom rentals can sleep 4-6 people which is great for big families!
To book a Vacasa vacation rental:
Search for availability for your destination and dates. Make sure that AFTER taxes and fees, your nights don’t end up being over $250/night (when booking a 1 bedroom, $500/night when booking a 2 bedroom.
Come up with a list of 3-5 choices of properties and write down the listing numbers.
Call the number 800-441-1034 to book with Wyndham Points.
DO NOT TRANSFER YOUR POINTS from Capital One or Citi until you have confirmed on the phone that your vacation rental is bookable with points.
Transfer your points to Wyndham while on the phone with the Wyndham employee and have them book the vacation rental for you.
Tips for booking:
The award night has to be UNDER $250/night for a one bedroom AFTER taxes and fees are added at checkout or UNDER $500/night for a two bedroom AFTER taxes and fees are added at checkout. Some vacation rentals LOOK like they are under but then when you go to checkout they average over $350 a night. The employees on the phone helping you book do not explain this to you and don’t seem to know why some are available to book with points and others aren’t.
Since Vacasa doesn’t have as wide of a footprint as VRBO or Airbnb, be sure to book a place that has reviews! Sometimes the exact same property is also listed on Airbnb and you can read the reviews on Airbnb as well.
Set some time aside for this booking! The process for booking can be a little time consuming because you have to get on the phone with someone and can’t book online!
Worth the hassle of calling? I THINK SO!
