Ways to Redeem Your Venture Miles
1) Redeem miles in the Capital One Travel.
This is Capital One’s version of Expedia where you can use your points to purchase flights, hotels, rental cars, etc. 75,000 miles will cover $750 worth of travel in the portal.
2) Get reimbursed for travel
This allows you to cover the cost of a travel purchase made with your Venture card. Any purchase that codes as travel can be covered with points afterwards. Many people utilize this option to cover travel expenses such as rental cars, train tickets, theme park tickets, etc that they can’t cover with other hotel or airline miles to make a trip as free as possible! For example, 75,000 miles will cover $750 worth of travel expenses.
3) Transfer your miles to transfer partners!
Capital One Miles can be transferred to Wyndham, Choice Privileges, Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines and more. These are some of the “sweet spots” where 75,000 miles can be transferred to redeem travel for a much higher travel value than $750.
1:1 Transfer Partners
I’ll say it again and I’ll say it again, TRANSFERRING YOUR MILES is the KEY to unlocking SO MUCH MORE VALUE out of your points. There is a reason why people are OBSESSED about their travel reward credit cards and not their cash back credit cards.
You can transfer your Capital One miles to 14 airline partners and 2 hotel partners at a 1:1 ratio. For example, if I transfer 20,000 Capital One Miles to Flying Blue, my miles will turn into 20,000 Flying Blue miles. Then I can book a flight to Europe on Air France or KLM with those 20,000 Flying Blue miles on their website. (Flying Blue is the loyalty program of Air France and KLM airlines and you use Flying Blue miles to redeem Air France and KLM flights).
Not all transfer partners are a good value and sometimes it’s a better deal to book through Capital One Travel℠ than to transfer your points. However, transferring to certain transfer partners like Air Canada, Flying Blue, and Vacasa are often “sweet spots” where you can get a lot more value out of your points.
Airline Transfer Partners:
Aeromexico Club Premier
Air Canada - Aeroplan®
Cathay Pacific - Asia Miles
Avianca LifeMiles
British Airways Executive Club
Emirates Skywards
Etihad Guest
Finnair Plus
Flying Blue
Qantas Frequent Flyer
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
TAP Miles&Go
Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
Virgin Red
Hotel Transfer Partners:
Choice Privileges®
Wyndham Rewards
There are two other transfer partners that have a lower then 1:1 ratio with Capital One. When you transfer 1,000 Capital One miles to EVA Air, you’ll receive 750 EVA Air miles. For every 1,000 Capital One miles you transfer to ALL (Accor Live Limitless) you’ll receive 500 points.
(If you are new to transferring points, know that Chase has a lot more beginner friendly and recognizable transfer partner sweet spots like Hyatt, Southwest, United and more!)
Referral Bonus
You can earn up to 20,000 miles per referral (with a maximum of 50,000 referral miles per year) for the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. It is important to note that this referral bonus will only be received if the person you are referring has NOT previously opened any Capital One credit cards. If you have a spouse or travel partner, I recommend REFERRING them to their own card instead of adding them as an authorized user. That way, you can both earn the welcome offer plus you will earn referral points as well!
Combining Points in Your Household
You can combine your Capital One Miles with another member in your household. You can call Capital One to have them move the miles between your two accounts.
Combining Miles From Other Venture Cards
You can combine miles with other Capital One cards like the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card. To combine your miles, login to you Capital One online account and under Explore Rewards, click Redeem. You will then see an option to Move Rewards from one account to another. This will allow you to choose which account you would like to move miles from and how many miles you would like to move.
Downgrade Option
If you want to downgrade your Capital One Venture card after a year to the no-annual-fee Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card, I recommend calling to downgrade before your annual fee posts to your account! Your chances of being able to downgrade seem to go down if the annual fee has already been posted.
Chase 5/24 Rule
As a personal card, this card does count towards your Chase 5/24 status. Read more about the 5/24 rule here.
Bottom Line
The Capital One Venture card is a great card for a low annual fee of $95, ant the many perks make it a great card to have in your wallet!
