Review: Hyatt Regency Maui and How to Book a Free Stay With Credit Card Points
Last summer, we used points and miles to visit to Maui and had a great time! We used Southwest Rapid Rewards points and our Southwest Companion Pass to book round trip flights from Phoenix to Maui so the total out of pocket cost was only $56 in taxes for our flights!
We stayed 5 nights at the Hyatt Regency Maui and 2 nights at the Hana-Hyatt Resort and booked these stays with Hyatt points and paid $0 in taxes and fees! We had such an amazing vacation!
Here are 8 things we loved about the Hyatt Regency Maui:
1 - You can book with credit card points!
The Hyatt Regency Maui costs 25,000 - 35,000 Hyatt points per night. Hyatt is SUCH a sweet spot in travel rewards and racking up points for Hyatt stays is SO easy because Chase points transfer to Hyatt. As long as you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve®, or an Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, you can pool all of your Chase Ultimate Rewards points earned from any card and transfer them to Hyatt! For example, if you transfer 60,000 Chase points to your free Hyatt account, your 60,000 points will turn into 60,000 Hyatt points and you can book your Hyatt stay in your Hyatt account.
One tip for booking award stays with Hyatt - book FAR in advance for properties like this. Award space goes quickly. You can book up to 13 months out.
2 - The Pools!
There are two pools at the Hyatt Regency and you can also use the pool next door and the Hyatt Maui Residence Club. The pools are VERY kid friendly and the swim up bar was fun too! Towels and beach chairs are available to rent for free every day.
3 - The Free Resort Activities
Our kids enjoyed the lei making class, the fire knife class and the penguin presentation! There were more classes we didn’t get to like bracelet making, hula dancing, ukulele class, and coconut weaving! They also had free fitness and yoga classes.
4 - The Welcome Gifts
At check in, we were all given leis and our kids were gifted activity packs and sea turtle stuffed animals. Tip: I have had friends visit this property whose kids were not given welcome gifts besides the leis. This is something you could request when you request a free hotel upgrade. 5 - The Hotel Grounds
The hotel grounds were breathtaking and our kids loved the penguins (yes, penguins in Hawaii!), the birds, the koi pond, and yard games by the lobby.
6 - The Snorkeling From the Beach
While there was better snorkeling on other beaches we visited, the snorkeling by the resort was not bad at all! We snorkeled with turtles every day by the resort, saw a variety of fish, and even saw a shark! Black Rock Beach has AMAZING snorkeling and was less than a mile to walk to from the resort.
7 - Club Lounge Access
This is a great property to use your club access certificates if you have them. With club access, we got free breakfast, free snacks and drinks, and free Hors D’oeuvres and dessert in the evening which saved us a lot of money!
8 - The On Property Drums of the Pacific Luau, Japengo Restaurant and Ulalani’s Shave Ice
The luau and Japengo were a splurge for us but we loved both experiences! Make sure to make reservations ahead of time for these if you are interested in them. The luau was an amazing show with average food but we went into the experience knowing we were paying for the experience. Japengo was an amazing sushi restaurant and we loved the food.
This resort was our kid’s favorite hotel to date and we for sure would book another visit!
