World of Hyatt: The Ultimate Hotel Sweet Spot in Travel Rewards
Hyatt is my favorite hotel brand to use my points and miles!
This is not because I don’t like Marriott, Hilton, etc, but because I can get soooooo much value out of my points by booking Hyatt stays with credit card points!
Here is how to book Hyatt stays with credit card points to get the most value:
In order to understand why Hyatt is such a great value, you need to understand how to transfer your points to transfer partners. Essentially, transferring your points to a travel partner is moving your points over to a different travel site and turning your points into that travel site's points.
Let's use Chase Ultimate Rewards points and Hyatt as an example.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is a very beginner friendly credit card and Hyatt is a very beginner friendly Chase transfer partner with an AMAZING redemption rate!
You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt. What that means is that I can move my Chase points over to my free Hyatt account and my points will turn into Hyatt points! Then, I can book a Hyatt stay with Hyatt points on Hyatt’s website.
Often when I am booking travel, I will search hotels on Hyatt’s website and see how many points I need to book my Hyatt stay. If I need 80,000 points to book a Hyatt hotel stay, I will login to my Chase account and transfer 80,000 Chase Ultimate Reward points over to Hyatt. The points will then turn into Hyatt points and then I can book my stay with Hyatt. One thing to note is that once you transfer your points to Hyatt, you cannot transfer them back to Chase. I only transfer my points when I am ready to book and I only transfer the exact amount of points that I need so that I can keep my other points flexible!
You may be reading this and thinking that that is way too complicated! I TOTALLY GET THAT AND THAT WAS TOTALLY ME when I first started looking into travel with points and miles. However, transferring your points is KEY to unlocking soooo much more value! This is where the good redemptions are at! Every points and miles enthusiast I know, knows how to transfer their points and does so often. Your points simply just won’t stretch as far if you never transfer your points.
So what makes Hyatt such a good deal?!... Let’s use another example!
Say I have 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points that I earned from my Chase Sapphire Preferred card.
The 100,000 points are worth $1,000 if I cashed out the points.
The 100,000 points are worth $1,250 in travel if I book travel through Chase Travel℠.
OR the 100,000 points can be worth $4,507.74 if I transfer the points to Hyatt and book a stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai for 4 nights this December! (This resort costs 25,000-35,000 points per night so for four off-peak nights this December, it costs 25,000 points per night for a room that costs over $900 per night if booking in cash!) I would maybe be able to book just ONE night at the same exact Hyatt if I used the 100,000 Chase points and booked it through Chase Travel℠.
Besides Hyatt being such a great value when redeeming your points for Hyatt stays, there are also so many credit cards that earn points for Hyatt stays so that you can rack up a ton of Hyatt points!
Here are all of the credit cards that earn points for Hyatt stays*!

*Note that you or your Player 2 must have an annual fee Chase card (the Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Business Preferred) to be able to transfer your Chase Ultimate Reward points earned from any Chase card to Hyatt.
One other tip for booking award stays with Hyatt - book FAR in advance for Hyatt stays. Hyatt award space goes quickly and you can book up to 13 months out.
Not all transfer partners are this good of a value, but Hyatt is a very beginner friendly “sweet spot” in the points and miles world and is a great place to start and my favorite hotel program to use my points and miles!
